Siemens Healthineers to Expand Ottawa Manufacturing Facility

SiemensA leading medical technology company with over 170 years of experience and 18,000 patents globally, Siemens Healthineers recently announced their plan to expand their Ottawa manufacturing facility. This facility in Ottawa, Ontario manufactures the epoc blood analysis system, a handheld, wireless solution that allows comprehensive blood analysis testing at the patients side on a single room temperature test card. The Epoc® Host2 Motorola unit provides blood gas, electrolyte, and metabolite results at the patient's side in approximately 35 seconds.

According to the company's press release, the Ontario manufacturing facility will be expanded by 5000 square feet to support new manufacturing lines and accommodate growth of the healthcare business worldwide and in Canada. Expected to be completed by June 2021, it will complement the company's other point-of-care operations in the United States, United Kingdom, and India.

Siemens has a vast point-of-care testing portfolio which includes the DCA Vantage® Analyzer, RAPIDPoint 500 systems, Clinitek Status + and Clinitek Advantus analyzers. The DCA Vantage® unit is designed to monitor glycemic control and detect early kidney disease in environments ranging from the physician's office to remote, point-of-care coordinated sites in hospitals and multisite practices. These analyzers help healthcare providers to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, and overall patient satisfaction.
