Video Feature: Automated Drugs of Abuse Analysis

Clinical Chemistry testing is helping physicians to make diagnosis of disease and to decide which kind of therapy is needed. Testing is done also to monitor the treatment progress and right dosage of medicines. We're visiting a special Institute in Copenhagen where the use of drugs is monitored with a Thermo Scientific Indiko Plus System.

Laboratory technician Anette Hansen is managing this small, well-organized laboratory with 16 years experience in laboratory testing.

How many samples are analyzed daily?
Typically about 20 to 30 per day.

Which kind of application parameters are you measuring?
Here we use the Cedia application and the DRI application. And we are having a deeper kind of drug parameters, opiates, incidence of pine, cocaine and a lot of other rock abuses parameters.

It's easy to use Benchtop Analyzer performs Immunoassay as the initial screen, and if the urine screen shows a positive result, the findings is confirmed by another technique. The benefit of screening is that it is a cost effective method to effectively monitor a patient's progress towards a drug-free life.

Why did you select Indiko Plus?
Well, my old instrument was old and I was looking for a new one and then I asked Thermo Fisher if they have anything new in the market and they introduced me to Indiko and Indiko Plus. And then I went to Stockholm to see an Indiko and I was introduced to the Indiko Plus just within application. But I find it very attractive and the size was just what I needed for me and it was very easy to work on. At the beginning I saw it and it was very silent, and I know that's a small thing but when you go to a laboratory all day, they are actually very important that you don't have all the noise in your head. And it's very user friendly if you can say it like that because it will tell you all that thing that you have to do and can't do and anything wrong you just press a button and it will tell you what you need to do next.

What are your experiences after using the instrument for two months?
After two months, I'm not disappointed. Actually, I still think it's very user friendly and we are getting best friends. It was not that complicated, it was just the same routine. And now you know the instrument, just like it has been always.
